Keto Halloween Black Velvet Cookies — Rich, Fudgy & Spooky
These soft and fudgy Keto Halloween Black Velvet Cookies are the kind of Halloween treat that disappears quickly. Rich chocolate flavor, a creamy orange center, and little pops of Halloween color make them perfect for parties, fall baking, or a spooky dessert night. They’re low-carb, sugar-free, and easy enough to make at home without spending hours in the kitchen.
Ingredients
1 ½ cups finely ground almond flour
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
⅓ cup powdered erythritol or monk fruit sweetener
¼ cup melted coconut oil
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black food coloring or black cocoa powder, optional
⅓ cup sugar-free orange and green chocolate chips or keto-friendly candy pieces
¼ cup sugar-free orange chocolate or keto white chocolate
1 tablespoon heavy cream
1–2 drops orange food coloring, optional
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. In a medium bowl, whisk together the almond flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, powdered erythritol, and salt. In a separate bowl, combine the melted coconut oil, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a thick, soft cookie dough forms. For an extra-dark black velvet color, add a little black food coloring or replace some of the cocoa powder with black cocoa powder.
Divide the dough into about 8–10 portions and roll each portion into a ball. Place them on the prepared baking sheet and gently flatten them into thick cookies. Press a few sugar-free orange and green candy pieces into the tops. Bake for 9–11 minutes, keeping an eye on them because almond-flour cookies can dry out if overbaked. The centers should still look slightly soft when they come out of the oven.
Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a cooling rack. While they cool, prepare the orange filling by gently melting the sugar-free orange chocolate with the heavy cream. Stir until smooth and creamy, then add a tiny amount of orange food coloring if desired. Allow the filling to cool slightly so it becomes thick enough to spread.
Once the cookies are completely cool, spread a small amount of the orange filling onto the bottom of one cookie and place another cookie on top. You can also simply pipe or spoon the orange filling onto the center of individual cookies for the same Halloween-inspired look shown in the picture. Finish with a few extra sugar-free orange and green pieces.
For the best texture, let the cookies sit for 15–20 minutes before serving so the chocolate filling can set. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to several days. Let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
Keto tip: Choose sugar-free chocolate and candy pieces with no added sugar, and check the nutrition label because carb counts and sweeteners vary by brand. For the lowest-carb version, use unsweetened black cocoa and a powdered keto sweetener, and keep the candy pieces limited to a small amount.
