Cottage Cheese Protein Fries 🧀

These crispy, cheesy Cottage Cheese Protein Fries are an easy, high-protein snack made with cottage cheese, egg, mozzarella, and Parmesan. They’re simple to prepare, deliciously savory, and perfect for dipping in your favorite sauce. Naturally low in carbohydrates, they’re a great alternative to traditional potato fries!

Servings: 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 20–25 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes
Oven Temperature: 400°F (200°C)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Cooking spray, if needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Blend the base: Add the cottage cheese and egg to a blender or food processor. Blend until completely smooth and creamy.
  3. Add the cheese and seasoning: Transfer the mixture to a bowl. Stir in the mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper until evenly combined.
  4. Spread the mixture: Pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Spread it into a thin, even rectangle, approximately ¼ inch thick. Keeping the thickness even helps the fries bake uniformly.
  5. Bake until golden: Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the mixture is firm, set, and golden around the edges. If needed, bake for a few extra minutes to help it dry out.
  6. Cool and cut: Allow the baked cheese sheet to cool for 5–10 minutes so it can firm up. Carefully peel it from the parchment paper and cut it into fry-shaped strips.
  7. Crisp the fries (optional): For a firmer texture, return the cut fries to the oven for another 5–10 minutes, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  8. Serve: Enjoy warm with sugar-free ketchup, garlic yogurt dip, or your favorite low-carb dipping sauce.

Tips for the Best Protein Fries

  • Use parchment paper: This helps prevent sticking and makes the fries easier to remove.
  • Spread evenly: A thin, even layer helps the mixture cook consistently.
  • Let them cool: Cooling before cutting helps the fries hold their shape.
  • Want extra crispiness? Finish the cut fries in an air fryer at 375°F (190°C) for 3–6 minutes, checking frequently.
  • Avoid excess moisture: If your cottage cheese is particularly watery, drain it slightly before blending.

Nutrition Information

Approximate per serving, assuming 2 servings:

  • Calories: 250–300
  • Protein: 22–26 g
  • Total carbohydrates: 5–7 g
  • Fat: 16–20 g

Nutrition varies by cottage cheese brand and cheese type.

Diet notes: High-protein and low-carb. These fries can fit a keto diet when the ingredient labels and portion sizes align with your daily carbohydrate target. They are not carb-free, and the texture is more cheesy and firm than traditional potato fries.
