Crispy, Cheesy & Easy High-Protein Breakfast

This Air Fryer Egg Toast is a quick breakfast made with crispy bread, a perfectly cooked egg, and melted cheese. It’s ready in about 10 minutes and is great for a simple protein-packed morning meal.

⏱️ Recipe Details

  • Prep Time: 3 minutes
  • Cook Time: 7–9 minutes
  • Total Time: 10–12 minutes
  • Servings: 2

πŸ›’ Ingredients

  • 2 slices bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons butter, softened
  • ΒΌ cup shredded cheddar or mozzarella
  • ΒΌ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ΒΌ teaspoon black pepper
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon chopped green onion or chives
  • Optional: sliced tomatoes, cooked turkey bacon, or chili flakes

πŸ‘©β€πŸ³ Instructions

1. Prepare the Bread

Lightly butter one side of each bread slice.

Using the back of a spoon, gently press down the center of each slice to create a shallow indentation.

This creates a little space for the egg.

2. Add the Egg 🍳

Place the bread into the air-fryer basket.

Carefully crack one egg into the center indentation of each slice.

Try to keep the egg centered so the white doesn’t run over the edges.

3. Season

Sprinkle each egg with:

  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Garlic powder

Add a little shredded cheese around the egg.

For extra flavor, add chopped chives or green onion.

4. Air Fry πŸ”₯

Preheat the air fryer to 350Β°F (175Β°C) for about 2–3 minutes.

Place the prepared toast into the basket.

Air fry for approximately:

7–9 minutes

For a runny yolk:

Start checking around 6–7 minutes.

For a firm yolk:

Cook closer to 9–10 minutes.

Air fryers vary, so keep an eye on the egg during the final few minutes.

5. Make It Extra Crispy πŸ§€

For an extra golden finish, add a little more cheese during the final 1–2 minutes of cooking.

The bread should be crisp and golden while the cheese is melted and bubbly.

6. Serve

Carefully remove the toast from the air fryer.

Sprinkle with fresh chives, green onion, or chili flakes.

Serve immediately while the toast is hot and crispy. πŸ˜‹

🌢️ Delicious Variations

πŸ₯“ Bacon & Egg Toast

Add finely chopped cooked bacon before air frying.

πŸ§€ Three-Cheese

Use a combination of cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan.

🌢️ Spicy

Add jalapeΓ±os and chili flakes.

πŸ₯‘ Avocado Egg Toast

Top the finished toast with sliced avocado and a squeeze of lemon.

πŸ… Mediterranean

Add chopped tomatoes, feta, oregano, and fresh herbs after cooking.

πŸ’ͺ High-Protein Option

To increase the protein, use:

  • High-protein bread
  • 2 eggs per serving
  • Reduced-fat mozzarella or cheddar
  • Cooked turkey or chicken slices

A typical serving with regular bread and one egg provides roughly 12–18g protein, depending on the bread and cheese used.

For a low-carb/keto version, use a keto bread with minimal net carbs and check the nutrition label.

πŸ’‘ Tips for Perfect Air Fryer Egg Toast

βœ”οΈ Make a deep enough indentation to hold the egg.

βœ”οΈ Use bread that is sturdy enough to support the egg.

βœ”οΈ Don’t overcrowd the air fryer.

βœ”οΈ Check the egg early if you prefer a runny yolk.

βœ”οΈ Let the toast sit for 1–2 minutes after cookingβ€”the egg will continue setting slightly.

❀️ Final Result

Crispy golden toast + creamy egg + melted cheese = the easiest breakfast! πŸ³πŸ§€πŸž Perfect for busy mornings, and you can customize it with your favorite toppings.
